Molas are a traditional artform of the Kuna people of Panama. My fourth graders recently studied Molas and then made their own version of them by layering different clors of construcion paper and arranging shapes on a background. This lesson is great because students need to understand symmetry, composition, have excellent cutting skills, think about their use of color and they learn about another culture and their traditional crafts.
