Radial Design Printmaking

8th Grade students designed plates using the principles of radial design. Below are some of the fabulous prints they made!
They saw a brief powerpoint that showed images of relief printmaking and made the connection between relief printmaking and the printing press. Then they sketched ideas for their plates which had to be only a quarter of the final image. We discussed safe carving techniques and used a great material called ez carve. I think Dick Blick sells it. Another big aspect of the lesson included maintaining a clean work area to enable the students to create clean prints. They were required to hand in 5 clean prints in a variety of inks and on different paper.
