Crayon resist Snowmen and cut Snowflakes

Here is a simple lesson for first grade. Students drew a snowy scene with crayons. They were to include a snowman and a horizon line. They could add other details such as the sun, a house or some trees. Then with liquid watercolor, they painted in the sky and their details. I only gave them blue and yellow paint so they didn't end up with 'mud'. After their pictures dried, I mounted them on paper of their choice and they cut out snowflakes. At this age, most of them had never cut a snowflake before, so this was exciting for them as well. They then glued their snowflakes to the bottom of their pictures to finish them off. The results are quite nice!
