8th grade students created "green men" out of clay. The object was to try to create facial features on slab of clay that they shaped into leaves. I taught them different methods of building the face up such as adding cheeks, eyelids, noses etc. This lesson was a preface to the gargoyle project. It helped students work through problem solving and get practice working with clay before tackling a more 3 dimensional project.
